Ball
Squash Balls are made by sealing together 2 rubber halves, overtime the air escapes so the ball looses pressure. The more impact the ball gets the bouncer it becomes, as the impacts cause the ball to heat up increasing the pressure inside.
The speed and bounce of the ball is indicated by the colour of the dot.
There are 4 standard types by playing level:
- Yellow Dot: very experienced players, dull bounce
- White Dot: advanced players, light bounce
- Red Dot: intermediate and recreational players, responsive bounce
- Blue Dot: beginners and juniors, lively bounce
You start with a high/medium bouncing ball and switch to a lower bounce as you improve, you need a high bounce to maintain the rally as you build your skills.
For intermediate players yellow dots balls are durable and reliable and it’s not recommended to use generic balls if you are trying to up your skills.
Over type the a ball will become spongy and unresponsive, a ball needs to be replaced regularly, approximately every 2-3 months for regular players, but lower-bounce balls that are for heavy hitting will need to be replaced more frequently.
