AARDWOLFS ICE HOCKEY CLUB Club Background The Aardwolfs Ice Hockey Team was one of four teams formed in 1998 at the start of the Senior Non Contact Ice Hockey League.
The Non Contact League is an adult social league which was split into two grades after growth in 2000. These Grades were: The ‘A’ Grade for advanced players who have grown beyond the ‘B’ league and for players who no longer wish to play full contact Ice Hockey. The ‘B’ Grade for beginners and players wishing to improve their game to the ‘A’ league standard. Advancement from the ‘B’ Grade to the ‘A’ Grade is encouraged.
The Aardwolfs Ice Hockey A Team had now been playing for three years in the ‘A’ Grade competition and in 2001 expanded, adding a team to the ‘B’ Grade competition forming the Aardwolfs Ice Hockey Club.
At the end of the Winter 2003 season the SNC league decided to change to playing over Summer. With the availability of more ice time the SNC were able to expand thus creating a new Premier grade above the A Grade. The Aardwolfs formed another team to compete in the new premier grade. At the beginning of 2004 with the help of the older members, an Aardwolfs Masters Tournament Team was formed. The same year the Aardwolfs Ice Hockey Club had there first Southern Migration to central Otago. A very successful ice hockey trip, meeting new players alike. Thus enabling us to continued for the past few years to the southern lakes area. In early 2005 the Aardwolfs executive decided to added a second Team in the A Grade competition. Forming the Aardwolfs Thunder and Lightning teams. The Masters Team had now grown into the two teams the Ancient Aardwolfs and the Arthritic Aardwolfs. Both very social and competitive teams, even between both of them. In early 2007 the Aardwolfs executive decided to added a second Team in the Premier competition. Making the top level Hockey for the Aardwolfs Fire and Ice teams. This growth increases the options for our future and has the added advantage of allowing the newer team members to benefit from the support of the more skilled and experienced players.
