Flights
Flights are the fins or wings at the back of the dart, they stabilise the dart and come in a variety of materials:
- Hard Flights - made of stiff polyester plastic, the layers are permanently sealed together, they don’t tear as easily but when they do they are ruined, they don’t flex but pop off the shaft when hit by another dart this reduces deflection and allows tight groups.
- Nylon Flights - made of ripstop nylon fabric and the most durable flight, hard to tear, stiffness varies according to the weight and fabric type (normally medium), wears at the front where it goes into the shaft.
- Dimplex & Ribtex Flights - are hard flights embossed with texture, the bumpy/ribbd surface stiffens the flight, it increases drag on the flight which can make the flight more stable
- Soft Flights - made from a flexible plastic sheet folded into shape, glue holds the layers together, if the flight is torn the layers can be pressed back together and held with glue, they flex out of the way when a dart hits, they can also be know as “Reseal Flights”.
