Porridge
Here are two quick and easy ways to whip up a bowl of porridge for breakfast.
Ingredients
Approximately ½ cup oats per person
1 cup low fat milk or calcium enriched milk per person
Directions
Stovetop:
Mix ingredients together in a pot, bring to the boil on a medium heat. Stir constantly while cooking for approximately 3 minutes.
Microwave:
Mix ingredients together in a microwaveable bowl. Cook on high for approximately 1 minute. Mix then microwave for another minute.
Tips
Pump some new life into an old favourite by trying some of these tasty and healthy variations:
1. Top with a little low fat fruit yoghurt and some lite tinned fruit
2. Mix in a scoop of whey powder for a healthy boost of protein
3. Top with sliced banana and a few sultanas
4. Mix in half a cup of your favourite berries and sprinkle a little coconut on the top
5. Add 1/2 cup of grated or stewed apple with a ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
6. Add chopped dates and sliced banana to sweeten.
