This year i have planned to walk from Perth to Albany West Australia a distance of 1000ks over a fifty day period with eight stops in small towns along the way, we will combine freeze dry food for main meals and other easy light weight meals we will select from supermarkets  along with the usual breakfast and lunches and fresh meals in the towns. Is they anything we can do to ensure we retain good energy levels and stay healthy, maybe something we can include in our diet or vitamins or something we can be doing before we leave.

That’s a lot of walking and I assume it’s going to be hot. Firstly, you want to be in top physical condition at the onset so hopefully you are already active. When it comes to fueling your body over the 50-day trek, you just need to provide your body with adequate carbohydrates and protein to match your energy output.

Plus you need to stay hydrated, especially important in a hot climate.  I would advise taking a course of Probiotics before you go, to help your immune system and take a multi vitamin and Omega 3’s every day as good nutritional insurance now and while you are away. Its also a good idea to start eating healthier now, why don’t’ you chat to a nutritionist and get some help with a nutrition plan to get you into peak shape before you head off?
