What should kids eat during halftime of sports games?

If children eat appropriately during the week and before sport, they will only need fluids during the game. If however, they start running out of steam near the end, a sports drink is the best option to provide immediate energy and hydration. Feed them a good low-fat breakfast that is high in complex carbohydrates, with a moderate amount of protein. As a general rule breakfast should be consumed 1-2 hours before a morning game. Hydration is extremely important so make sure a water bottle is always available. Players should consume fluid during the game whenever the need arises. At half time, fruit can also be of benefit as it provides water and carbohydrates. Have nutritious snacks available after the game, fruit, sandwiches, yoghurt, milk and plenty of water.
